### user level

A property of HyperCard, ranging from 1 to 5, that determines which of HyperCard’s capabilities are available. 

You can select the user level on the Preferences card in your Home stack. Each user level makes all the options from the lower levels available and also gives you additional capabilities. 

The five user levels are [g:Browsing], [g:Typing], [g:Painting], [g:Authoring], and [g:Scripting].
